Stephen Girling – Managing Director & Chartered Financial Planner
Stephen has over 40 years of financial advisory experience and co-founded SGWM in 2001.
A qualified Associate of the Personal Finance Society and a Chartered Financial Planner, Stephen’s role is wide and varied, heading a strong team of committed people who aim to provide our clients with a dedicated service and peace of mind in a turbulent financial world.
Stephen is married with three children, is a treasurer of his local church and is a dedicated (but not quick!) distance runner.
Andy Wood – Chairman
Andy joined us as Chairman in January 2014. His day job is Chief Executive of Adnams Plc, the Suffolk-based brewer, hotelier and retailer. Andy has an MBA, a doctorate from Cranfield University and Honorary doctorates; in Business from Anglia Ruskin University, in Science from Cranfield University and Civil Law from the University of East Anglia. He was also awarded an OBE in the Queens Birthday Honours 2013 and is HRH The Prince of Wales’ Ambassador for Business in the Community in the East of England.
Andy is also Professor of Corporate Leadership at Norwich Business School and Associate Dean of Enterprise (Faculty of Social Science) at the University of East Anglia.
Henry Gaskin – Chief Investment Officer
Based primarily out of our Ipswich office, Henry has been advising clients for the last 15 years. He typically works with families on overall wealth strategies, including pre and post retirement planning, estate planning and intergenerational wealth transfer, as well as working with business owners on related issues.
Prior to this he spent several years in London, including 5 years at Jupiter Asset Management, gaining detailed knowledge of the workings of a major investment house and completing his Investment Management Certificate qualification. In addition to his investment and general financial planning qualifications, he’s also a qualified Pension Transfer Specialist.
Time with clients is spent balanced with leading our in-house Investment Committee, overseeing the governance and management of our client’s discretionary investment portfolios and other investment solutions. Henry is also a Director of SG Wealth Management and has responsibility for overseeing the client facing team of Wealth Managers.
Henry is married with two children and lives in Ipswich. As well as running, cycling and working on his allotment, he’s also Vice Chairman of Ipswich Rugby Club; administrating, coaching and still (just about) playing……to which his limping around the office on a Monday morning will attest!
Tina Smiddy – Chief Operating Officer
Tina joined the team in July 2016 and has over 30 years’ experience in Financial Services, working for ABB, SEB, UBS and Alvine Capital in various roles. She is responsible for executing strategies developed by the Senior Management Team/Managing Director, working alongside the MD in helping with the smooth running of the company and in facilitating the adoption of improvements and procedures across the company.
Outside work she enjoys cooking, gardening and travelling.
Charlie Crafer – Financial Controller
Charlie worked for Norwich Union (now Aviva) for many years across a number of key departments including Pensions and Commissions.
In 2004 he joined Norwich-based Taverner Investment Strategies as the fund controller and in 2007 was appointed Financial Controller for SG Wealth Management.
Helen Tavner – Marketing & Communications Manager
With many years of experience in a variety of roles including PR, media, design, financial communications, advertising, marketing and event management, Helen looks after our communications and marketing.
From strategy through to execution, our key messages, brand identity and public image are of utmost importance, so Helen’s role ensures we have consistency across our publications, digital media, sponsorships, events and more.
In her leisure time, Helen enjoys the great outdoors, keeping fit and also enjoys reading, socialising and interior design. Helen lives with her cat, Herbert, and is passionate about animal welfare.
Stuart Sutton – Wealth Manager
Stuart is based from our Norwich office and serves clients mainly in Norfolk and Suffolk, although has a handful of clients as far afield as Northumberland and Somerset!
Having been lured by the excitement surrounding the [other] ‘big bang’ in 1986, plus a school outing to the London Stock Exchange, he began his financial services career in 1989. Roles within Personal Investment Management and Executorship & Trustee departments for a high street bank provided him with in-depth knowledge of people’s everyday financial lives, leading to his appointment as one of the youngest advisers in the bank’s Personal Investment department in 1996.
Since 2001 he’s provided unbiased, independent advice to clients and, together with former colleague Linda Kent, joined SGWM in 2007 as part of our expansion plans. Stuart is a strong believer in delivering a service focused on marrying his clients’ personal objectives with their money, working with their other trusted advisers to help them uncover the real motivation behind their financial decisions. Cashflow analysis is a cornerstone of his approach.
Stuart is an honorary member of Dereham & District Round Table and a keen sailor, cyclist and squash player and, together with others in his village, has recently ‘invested’ in his local pub to help ensure its future.
Linda Kent – Wealth Manager
Linda has enjoyed a successful career in Financial Services for over 30 years.
Prior to joining SGWM in October 2007, she was a partner in a local IFA business and also Financial Planning Manager for a major High Street Bank. She has a wealth of experience acting for a wide range of clients in all aspects of financial planning and portfolio management.
David Tooley – Wealth Manager
David has worked in financial services since 1998, leaving a Marketing role to move into the financial advice sector in 2005. He achieved Chartered Financial Planner status in 2012, which demonstrates his high level of technical ability and commitment to his profession.
David is often seen at the gym, training hard in order to keep up with his children, with any free time devoted to following Norwich City FC, and eating!
Mike Moore – Wealth Manager
Mike has worked in financial services for over 20 years and holds the Diploma in Personal Financial Planning level 4 qualification and is currently working towards Chartered status.
When not at work he enjoys spending time with his young son and, if time permits, trying to improve his golf.
Katie Jones – Wealth Manager
Katie is based in our Ipswich office and, since graduating from university in 2004 with a degree in business management, has worked in financial services for 16 years. Whilst at university Katie discovered she had an interest in people, planning and finance – which led her to her first role as a trainee adviser. She gained her financial planning qualifications and worked for another locally based advisory firm before joining the SG Wealth Management team in 2011. Katie works with private clients in the region providing advice on all aspects of financial planning.
Katie has a passion for people and believes in delivering excellent client service and the importance of building a strong, meaningful and trusting relationship with her clients. She’s proud to provide independent, unbiased and honest fee-based advice and feels great satisfaction in serving her clients to achieve their objectives.
Outside of work, Katie is a devoted mum to three young children, who certainly keep her on her toes! She can often be found in the kitchen – dancing with the children to their favourite songs – or in quieter, moments indulging in creative outlets such as calligraphy, experimenting with aromatherapy and candle making.
John Griffin – Wealth Manager
John’s career experience spans 40 years in the financial services sector, including management positions with a number of building societies and the mortgage advisory sector. Since 2000, he’s specialised in providing independent financial advice to personal clients, with particular emphasis on investment portfolios, inheritance tax planning and elderly client issues.
Prior to joining SGWM, John worked for two prominent Norwich firms and holds holds the DipPFS financial planning qualification from the Chartered Insurance Institute. He is a SOLLA Accredited Later Life Adviser as well as an affiliated member of STEP (The Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners).
Sue Steel – Wealth Manager
Susan has worked in financial services for 25 years, starting straight from school as an administrator. She became an adviser in 2001 following completion of her financial planning qualifications, initially providing advice at a corporate level to employers and their employees. In 2004 Susan transferred across to Private Client division and has since provided financial advice to individual clients. Since qualifying, Susan has continued to extend her financial planning qualifications, becoming Pension Transfer Specialist in 2004.
Susan joined Stan Gaskin Ltd in February 2010 as a Private Client Adviser. She is married with two children.
Andrew Morley – Wealth Manager
Andrew has worked in financial services since 1987 and, in addition to providing financial advice to clients, has also undertaken a number of management roles.
In 2001 Andrew became an IFA, concentrating exclusively on providing financial advice to clients, whilst qualifying as a Pension Transfer and Long Term Care specialist. Andrew is currently working towards Chartered status.
Andrew took up cycling in 2015 and takes part in a number of charity rides throughout the year. He also plays badminton regularly and often takes the family dogs out for long walks.
Neil Dobson – Wealth Manager
Neil Dobson joined us in January 2018 bringing with him over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry after working for national and local advice firms.
As a Chartered Financial Planner and Fellow of the Personal Finance Society (PFS), he provides advice to individuals and business owners throughout East Anglia, advising on a wide range of financial planning areas. He specialises in pension and investment planning and enjoys building long-term relationships whilst helping clients achieve their life goals.
Neil is married with two children (who take up most of his spare time!) and his hobbies include watching football and cricket, as well as fishing.
Oliver Morrish – Graduate Trainee Wealth Manager
Oliver joined our Wealth Management team in September 2017 having graduated from Anglia Ruskin University where he studied Accounting & Finance. He is now working towards achieving his Diploma in Financial Planning.
He plays football twice a week as well as squash and tennis on a weekly basis – and loves any excuse to travel.
Ryan helps businesses deliver their Workplace Pensions and Employee Benefits.
Having studied Business Management at the University of East Anglia and achieved Chartered status as a Financial Adviser, he now specialises in providing advice and support to companies and their employees.
Ryan has worked with major brands, multinational companies, PLCs, and many smaller businesses to help them retain and attract the best individuals. It’s also important to him that employees can get access to clear and simple financial guidance when needed.
With significant experience delivering presentations and communications to employees and management, he’s also comfortable working with different departments and stakeholders.
Ryan plays football for his local team (averagely), plays golf (poorly) and loves spending time with his wife and daughter. His favourite film is Gladiator and, by his own admission, he has awful taste in music.
Michelle Morgan – Senior Corporate Services Administrator
Michelle has worked within the financial services industry for over 25 years, having wide experience from insurer to IFA plus individual to corporate sectors.
Outside work, Michelle likes to relax with a pint and friends watching her beloved Wasps at rugby HQ and gets her adrenaline fix by competing and marshalling with her husband (no domestics so far!) in a wide variety of motorsport.
Simon Eke – Client Services Manager
Simon joined us in March 2016 and heads up the Client Services Team. He has over 30 years’ experience in the industry and has held various roles with three insurance companies in different locations around the country, plus four advisory firms in the East Anglia region.
Outside of work, Simon is a Group Scout Leader which takes up the majority of his spare time.
Tammy-Lyn Ducker – Senior Client Services Support
Tammy-Lyn is an experienced senior member of our client services team having been in the industry since 1998.
Prior to joining SGWM, she built up many years of experience with two highly respected local advisory firms, principally supporting the IFA teams while also developing her skills in the Paraplanning aspects of our work. She’s a graduate and holds the Financial Planning Certificate qualification of the Personal Finance Society. She is working towards her Diploma in Financial Planning.
Tammy-Lyn’s spare time is taken up wholeheartedly by her young family.
Ashley Hobbs – Senior Client Services Support
Ashley joined SG Wealth Management in August 2017 and has a lot of knowledge and experience, having worked in the insurance and financial services industry since 2009.
Outside of work, Ashley enjoys spending time with family and friends and also has a keen interest in sports including football, cricket and running. Ashley supports Norwich City and runs with the Norwich Road Runners.
Akane Taylor – Senior Client Services and Investment Support
Akane has over 12 years’ experience in Financial Services and currently provides support to our Wealth Manager and Investment Teams. She previously worked at two large IFA firms in Norwich in both support and management roles.
In her spare time, Akane likes to travel and explore different cultures and countries and also enjoys cooking – especially Italian and Japanese cuisine.
Louisa started her career in financial services 25 years ago, working mainly within Client Services and as a PA. She is qualified with the Chartered Insurance Institute to give mortgage advice and worked in the mortgage industry for a while, but decided to move back to investment services.
In her spare time she’s a Parish Councillor, enjoys travelling, food and wine plus looking after her chickens and a duck called Nigel!
After obtaining his law degree at the University of Lincoln, Asher worked in administration, logistics and genetic testing before joining SG Wealth Management as a graduate trainee, where he is receiving a grounding in financial services.
A keen runner, Asher often goes out on regular morning jogs and participates in long distance races as often as he is able and is currently training for his next Marathon.
Neil Gregory – Paraplanner Manager
Neil joined SG Wealth Management in 2014 as Paraplanner to the Wealth Management Team. Neil has worked in various roles within the industry since leaving college in 1997 and has achieved the Diploma in Financial Planning.
Neil enjoys running, working on his vegetable plot in the garden and watching live music.
Ira Everett – Paraplanner
Ira started out with SG Wealth Management in Client Services Support having worked in the IFA industry since she left school.
She has since progressed to the role of Paraplanner and has successfully achieved her certificate for Financial Advisers (CeFA) and her Diploma for Financial Advisers (DipFA).
Jason grew up in Norwich and has always lived in the area, although he has also worked overseas and offshore. Following a change of career in 1999, Jason moved into IT and has worked in various IT roles – both on an employed and freelance basis – for over 20 years.
Married with two teenagers and two dogs, his free time is spent playing in – or practising for – 8-ball pool competitions and leagues and watching all kinds of sports, especially F1 and the Premier League. He also enjoys cinema.
Kim joined us from Commercial Trust where she worked for 13 years as a mortgage adviser and sales manager, looking after a team of six staff and also gaining her CEMAP qualifications. Joining their compliance team in 2015 equipped her well for her role at SGWM, which ensures the company and our regulated business activities operate within the parameters of our regulating body, the Financial Conduct Authority.
Kim loves the outdoors and exploring new places with her husband, young daughter, and cocker spaniel, plus travelling and trying out new restaurants and cuisine with friends and family.
Penny joined in 2018 bringing with her many years of experience from working in various HR roles in the Private, Public and Voluntary sectors. She is adept at ensuring employment law and best practices are adhered to when supporting the business and our staff in HR matters.
In her spare time she likes to socialise with family and friends, sometimes makes wedding cakes for her pals and is also an animal lover. She lives with her adopted Maine Coon cat called Teddy.
Aggie McArdle – Ipswich Office Manager
Aggie has worked in the financial sector all her working life, starting out in a building society, before moving to a large local insurance broker to work in the life department. Aggie joined Stan Gaskin Ltd at the start of the business and is now Office Manager, heading the Admin Team.
In her spare time, she enjoys socialising with friends and family, city breaks and the theatre.
Emma previously worked for SG Wealth Management from the company’s foundation in 2001 re-joining us in 2018 after taking a career break to spend time with her young family.
With more than 14 years experience providing administrative support in the Financial Services sector, her role is Personal Assistant to our Managing Director, Stephen Girling and Chief Operating Officer, Tina Smiddy.
Outside of work, Emma enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, going for walks and enjoying movie nights, as well as being involved in her local church.
Charlotte joined the team in December 2015 and is responsible for ‘Front of House’ in the Norwich Office. Charlotte’s background is mainly client-service based in the USA, where she lived and worked for 18 years.
She’s also a mum to two young boys so her spare time is spent with her husband and boys – mostly on the side lines at football practice. Level
