About Cyber essentials

Cyber Essentials is a government-backed certification scheme that helps organisations ensure their IT policies, procedures, software and systems are maintained at the highest level to ensure company and customer data is safe from cyber-attacks. The National Cyber Security Centre recommend that all organisations achieve Cyber Essentials certification as a minimum standard and it's anticipated that this will soon become mandatory across the Financial Services industry.

The scheme ensures organisations evaluate their position against 5 technical controls.

  1. Firewalls: Creating a security filter to protect the organisation’s network.
  2. Security updates: Vulnerability identification and prevention.
  3. Access control: Controlling data access.
  4. Malware protection: Early detection and immobilisation of malicious software.
  5. Secure configuration: Minimising vulnerabilities within computer setups.

The process

Our team, with support from our trusted third-party IT partner, ION Networks, completed a substantial evidence-based questionnaire. After verification, SGWM were awarded the certification.

We’re grateful to the team at ION Networks for their assistance with this process.

Committed to cyber security best-practices

Our ability to attain this certification supports our continued commitment to, and investment in, cyber security and the safeguarding of our clients’ data.

We understand the importance of a robust approach to cyber security and our IT team continues to review our position on an ongoing basis, with assistance from our trusted third-party IT support, ensuring we adhere to best-practices and take additional security measures.

As IT systems and services evolve, so will the Cyber Essentials standard, and with each annual review we will expect to meet higher expectations and an even more stringent audit.
