SG Wealth Management’s Managing Director, Stephen Girling, and his son Asher completed the London Marathon on Sunday in a bid to raise funds for Lepra.
Stephen and Asher – shown here proudly bearing their race medals – raised £1,942 in total, smashing their original target of £1,750. Whilst this was Stephen’s 9th marathon – of which 8 were in London – it was Asher’s first, and before the event the pair’s training efforts were featured in the Norwich Evening News and Norwich Baroque’s ‘Bar Lines’ magazine.
UK-based Lepra is working to beat leprosy, a disease which to this day still affects people in places like India, Bangladesh and Mozambique and about which there is still a lack of knowledge.
Commenting on their race, Stephen said, “I was so glad to see the finish line on Sunday, as it was so hot just to run – let alone that distance – but Asher and I managed to meet up at mile 5 and ran it together. As it was his first marathon, he needed lots of encouragement for the last 8 miles, but the crowds and sense of occasion made it a fantastic experience!
My chosen charity Lepra are delighted with the generosity of donations, which will help to make a real difference to so many families, and I would like to thank everyone for their interest and support.”
