Meet the Norwich team:
Stephen Girling – MD & Compliance Director
Stephen has over 35 years of financial advisory experience and co-founded SGWM in 2001. His role is wide and varied, heading a strong team of committed people, looking to provide our clients with a dedicated service and peace of mind in a turbulent financial world. Stephen is qualified as an Associate of the Personal Finance Society. Married with three (growing up fast) children, he is also treasurer of his local church and a dedicated (but not quick) distance runner.
Neil Shillito – Director
Neil has worked in financial services for 30 years and founded SG Wealth Management with his fellow director Stephen Girling in 2001. Neil holds the Investment Management Certificate which permits – among other things – discretionary fund management; a key element of professional wealth management. Beyond work, he has a life-long interest in astronomy, plays golf badly and is a keen cyclist when he is not recovering from injuries sustained as a result.
Andy Wood – Chairman
Andy joined us as Chairman in January 2014. In his day job he is Chief Executive of Adnams Plc the Suffolk based brewer, hotelier and retailer. Andy has an MBA, a doctorate from Cranfield University and Honorary doctorates; in Business from Anglia Ruskin University, in Science from Cranfield University and Civil Law from the University of East Anglia. He was also awarded an OBE in the Queens Birthday Honours 2013 and is HRH The Prince of Wales’ Ambassador for Business in the Community in the East of England.
He is also Professor of Corporate Leadership at Norwich Business School and Associate Dean of Enterprise (Faculty of Social Science) at the University of East Anglia.
Tina Smiddy – Chief Operating Officer
Tina joined the team in July 2016. Tina has 30 years’ experience from the Financial Services working for ABB, SEB, UBS and Alvine Capital in various roles. She is responsible for executing strategies developed by the senior management team/MD, work alongside the MD in helping with the smooth running of the company and to facilitate the adoption of improvements and procedures across the company.
Outside of work she enjoys cooking, gardening and travelling.
Helen Tavner – Marketing Manager
With almost 30 years’ experience in a variety of roles including PR, media, design, financial communications, advertising, marketing and event management, Helen looks after SG Wealth Management’s communications and marketing remit.
From strategy through to execution, our key messages, brand identity and public image are of utmost importance and Helen’s role ensures we have consistency across our publications, digital media, sponsorships, events and more.
In her leisure time, Helen enjoys keeping fit with Zumba, HIIT , circuits, all kinds of dancing, gardening, walking, socialising and interior design….. and looking after her beloved cat, Henry.
Charlie Crafer – Financial Controller
Charlie worked for Norwich Union (now Aviva) for many years across a number of key departments including Pensions and Commissions. In 2004 he joined Norwich-based Taverner Investment Strategies as the fund controller and in 2007 was appointed financial controller for SG Wealth Management.
Linda Kent – Wealth Manager
Linda has enjoyed a successful career in Financial Services for over 30 years. Prior to joining SGWM in October 2007, she was a partner in a local IFA business and also Financial Planning Manager for a major High Street Bank. She has a wealth of experience acting for a wide range of clients in all aspects of financial planning and portfolio management.
David Tooley – Wealth Manager
David has worked in financial services since 1998, left a Marketing role to move into the financial advice sector in 2005, and achieved Chartered Financial Planner status in 2012 which demonstrates a high level of technical ability and commitment towards his profession. David is often seen at the gym during his lunch break training hard in order to keep up with his children, with any free time devoted to following Norwich City FC, and eating!
John Griffin – Wealth Manager
John has career experience of over 30 years’ working in the financial services sector, including management positions with a number of building societies and in the mortgage advisory sector. Since 2000, he has specialised in providing independent financial advice to personal clients, with particular emphasis on investment portfolios, inheritance tax planning and elderly client issues.
Prior to joining SGWM John worked for two prominent Norwich firms and he is qualified with the Diploma in Financial Planning (Personal Finance Society, a division of the CII) as well as being an affiliated member of STEP (The Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners) by examination.
Stuart Sutton – Wealth Manager
Stuart began his career in financial services in 1989 having been lured by the excitement surrounding the [other] ‘big bang’ in 1986 and a school outing to the London Stock Exchange.
Working in various roles within the Personal Investment Management and Executorship & Trustee departments until 1996 provided a broad range of knowledge about the real issues affecting peoples everyday financial lives, and in 1996 this led to his appointment as one of the youngest advisers within the bank’s Personal Investment department.
Mike Moore – Wealth Manager
Mike has worked in financial services for 20 years and holds the Diploma in Personal Financial Planning level 4 qualification and is currently working towards Chartered status; When not at work he enjoys spending time with his young son and if time permits, trying to improve his golf & his keen love of horse racing.
Andrew Morley – Wealth Manager
Andrew has worked in financial services since 1987 and in addition to providing financial advice to clients, he has also undertaken a number of management roles. In 2001 Andrew became an IFA, decided to concentrate exclusively on providing financial advice to clients and in the process became qualified as a Pension Transfer and Long Term Care specialist. Andrew is currently working towards Chartered status. Outside of work Andrew took up cycling in 2015 and takes part in a number of charity rides throughout the year. He also plays badminton regularly and often takes the family dogs out for long walks.
Neil Dobson – Wealth Manager
Neil Dobson joined us in January 2018 bringing with him over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry after working for national and local advice firms. As a Chartered Financial Planner and Associate of the Personal Finance Society, he provides advice to individuals and business owners throughout East Anglia, advising on a wide range of financial planning areas. He specialises in pension and investment planning and enjoys building long-term relationships whilst helping clients achieve their life goals.
Neil is married with two children (who take up most of his spare time!) and his hobbies include watching football and cricket, as well as fishing.
Oliver Morrish – Graduate Trainee Wealth Manager
Oliver joined our Wealth Management team in September 2017 having graduated from Anglia Ruskin University where he studied Accounting & Finance. He is now working towards achieving his Diploma in Financial Planning.
Ollie plays football twice a week as well as squash and tennis on a weekly basis – and loves any excuse to travel.
Charlotte Brannan-Milito – Receptionist
Charlotte joined the team in December 2015 and is responsible for Front of House in the Norwich Office. Charlotte’s background has been mainly client service based in the USA, where she’d been living and working for 18 years. She’s also a mum to two young boys so her spare time is spent with her husband and boys mostly on the sidelines at football practice.
Neil Hackett – Assistant Financial Controller
Having worked within financial services since 1990 Neil has knowledge and experience in a wide range of support roles. Neil has passed the Financial Planning Certificate in order to maintain and develop his professional career.
Margot North – Compliance & HR Support Manager
Margot supports the Managing Director with compliance matters and is responsible for training across the business. She has worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years and can call upon a vast array of experience in her role.
Tammy-Lyn Ducker – Senior Client Services Support
Tammy-Lyn is an experienced senior member of our client services team having been in the industry since 1998. Prior to joining SGWM, she built up many years of experience with two highly-respected local advisery firms, principally supporting the IFA teams while also developing her skills in the ParaPlanning aspects of our work. She is a graduate and holds the Financial Planning Certificate qualification of the Personal Finance Society. She is working towards her Diploma in Financial Planning. Tammy-Lyn’s spare time is taken up whole heartedly by her young family.
Simon Eke – Client Services Manager
Simon joined us in March 2016 and heads up the Client Services team. He has nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry during which he has had various roles with three insurance companies in different locations around the country & four advisery firms in the East Anglia region. Outside of work, Simon is a Cub Scout Leader which takes up the majority of his spare time.
Ira Everett – Client Services Support
Ira is a Client Services Support Administrator for us, she has worked in the IFA industry since she left school. She has passed the Certificate for Financial Advisers (CeFA) and now aims to complete the Diploma in Financial Planning.
Ashley Hobbs – Client Services Support
Ashley joined SG Wealth Management in August 2017 and comes with a lot of knowledge and experience having worked in the insurance and financial services industry since 2009.
Outside of work, Ashley enjoys spending time with family and friends and also has a keen interest in sports including football, cricket and running. Ashley supports Norwich City and runs with Norwich Road Runners.
Akane Taylor – Senior Client Services and Investment Support
Akane has over 10 years’ experience in Financial Services and currently provides support to our Wealth Manager and Investment Teams. She previously worked at two large IFA firms in Norwich in both support and management roles.
In her spare time, Akane likes to travel and explore different cultures and countries and also enjoys cooking – especially Italian and Japanese cuisine.
Kelly Mordecai – Client Services Support
Kelly worked for Aviva for nine years as a Team Leader in the Group Pensions Department before being made redundant in 2014. She then went to work for another Financial Adviser Firm as a Personal Assistant to the director. Kelly then joined SG Wealth Management in October 2016. Outside of work, Kelly enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family and travelling.
Jon Ellis – Client Services Support
Jon joined Client Services Support in November 2017 after almost 8 years working in a paralegal role, where he dealt with the calculation of complex financial losses in serious injury litigation for a large firm of solicitors in the top legal 500. Keen to move into financial services however, Jon spent two years studying for a Diploma in Financial Planning in his spare time, before making the move to the financial sector while continuing to work towards his certification.
Outside of work, Jon enjoys the local Norwich live music scene, spending time with his family and being kept on his toes by his particularly energetic young son!
Ryan Oates – Corporate Services Manager
Ryan graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2012 and began his career in the Financial Services Industry shortly after. Ryan has completed the Advanced Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning and holds the Chartered Financial Planner title.
At the weekend Ryan can be found playing football for his local team and at the golf course.
Michelle Morgan – Senior Corporate Services Administrator
Michelle has worked within in the financial services industry for 23 years having a wide experience from insurer to IFA; individual to corporate sections. Outside work, Michelle likes to relax with a pint and friends watching her beloved Wasps at rugby HQ and gets her adrenaline fix by competing and marshalling with her husband (no domestics so far!) in a wide variety of motorsport.
Neil Gregory – Paraplanner
Neil joined SG Wealth Management in 2014 as Paraplanner to the Wealth Managers. Neil has worked in various roles within the industry since leaving college in 1997 and has achieved the Diploma in Financial Planning. Outside of work Neil enjoys running, working on his vegetable plot in the garden and watching live music.
Andy Moss – Paraplanner
Andy worked for Aviva (pensions) for 16 years before branching out into the wider world of financial services. He is a Diploma qualified Paraplanner and has 11 years experience via very different Paraplanning roles at Alan Boswell, Kent Carlyle Wealth Management and Hansells. In his free time, Andy spends as much time as possible with his wife and young daughter, wider family and friends.
Laura Pipe – Junior Paraplanner
Laura started her career in financial services at Aviva in 2007 and has since had various roles within the industry including working within other advisory firms. She has successfully achieved her Certificate in Financial Services and is currently working towards her Diploma.
St.John has worked in Stockbroking and Portfolio Investment Management for 13 years having previously been a Senior Commercial and Banking solicitor working in-house with Lloyds TSB Bank. St.John is fully qualified and up to date with latest PCIAM qualification which enables him to perform discretionary fund management using individual shares as well as funds; a key element to providing a stockbroking service to clients. Beyond work, he has 2 grown up children and a strong interest in sports including cricket, rugby (watching others get hurt in rugby rather than himself!) and country sports together with the social life that goes with it.
